The young werewolf protagonist, Layla Walsh, is born into a family of hunters. She inherits her birth mother Alice's werewolf bloodline. Alice, the alpha of the werewolf pack, transforms during childbirth and is hunted down by the Walsh family. Layla's birth is feared by the family. After Alice's death, she is abandoned by her biological father, Victor Walsh, but miraculously survives and ends up in the wilderness, eventually becoming the new werewolf ruler.
