Story of the series

After moving away for marriage, Lauren Bennett and her husband Derek Hayes build a life together, but face constant leeching from a biased mother-in-law and roguish brother-in-law, Travis Hayes. The mother-in-law secretly sells her son's house to fund Travis. Travis also sexually harasses a client, abuses his wife, and assaults Lauren, nearly causing a miscarriage. Fed up with Derek's cowardly enabling, Lauren awakens from her trauma, chooses divorce, and fights back legally. Ultimately, Travis receives an eight-year prison sentence, and the mother-in-law is sent away. The story follows a woman breaking free from a leeching family to reclaim her life.
