King Damon, weary of the constraints of court life, disguises himself as a vagabond and travels alone to the Northern Territories to observe the lives of his people. He collapses from a high fever along the way and is nursed back to health by Elena, an apprentice at a small‑town apothecary, with bread and medicinal pills. Meanwhile, Elena catches her fiancé Caleb having an affair with her cousin Mira and is publicly jilted. To fulfill the dying wish of her gravely‑ill grandmother, Elena enters a rushed contract marriage with Damon, whom she has known for only two days, and the two pretend to be a loving couple.
