Maren found herself defending Alec, the son of Ewrouis's wealthiest man, in a case involving allegations of drugging and sexual assault. She was compelled to take on this case due to her daughter Caylee's severe asthma, which required expensive medication. Unexpectedly, Caylee and her childhood friend Phil were humiliated by Alec's gang at a local grill, where Caylee was dragged into a private room and bullied. When Maren arrived and saw her daughter's condition, she presented her lawyer credentials furiously, declaring her severance from the Lawson family.
